A relatively disappointing month for car sales in India, up just 2% year-on-year to 212,882 registrations and not benefitting from the Diwali celebrations this year. Year-to-date the market is still up a solid 10% on 2011 at 2,437,492 units. Maruti lodges another amazing month with 90,882 sales and 42.7% share. That’s more than the 4 following carmakers put together: Hyundai at 16.3%, Mahindra at 11.6%, Tata at 8.5% and Toyota at 4.9%. The Alto leads the way again by far with 23,550 sales and 11.1%, including sales of the new Alto 800 which apparently has been well received – however split figures are not available.
The Maruti Swift delivers its best score in 6 months with 17,335 sales and 8.1% while the Maruti DZire is also solid at 13,502 units and 6.3%. The Maruti Wagon R, Mahindra Bolero and Hyundai i10 follow like in the year-to-date ranking. Further down, the Maruti Ertiga beats its monthly volume record again at #9 with 7,337 sales, the Renault Duster is up a further two spots to a record #13 at 5,251 units – single-handedly making Renault go from #12 to #7 brand in India, passing Skoda, Nissan, Honda, Volkswagen and Ford in the process…
The Mahindra XUV500 reaches its highest ranking again at #17, the Tata Nano falls further to 3,503 units, its lowest volume since September 2011, the Mahindra Quanto is up 2 spots to #26, the Chevrolet Sail is up 18 to #33 with 1,595 sales for its 2nd month in market, the Renault Scala improves to a record 807 units but drops to #46 and the Mahindra Thar is down 3 ranks to #48.
